MCAT students may work in an airport, this is an interesting visit to practice on the technical vocabulary and watch in real what they have seen in theory. Nancy tells us about the information she noted down during the visit of Coolangatta airport.

Departure of QIBA at 13:25 for Coolangatta Airport,10 minutes by bus. It’s a domestic and international airport. Virgin Blue, Jet Star, Air New Zealand, Air Asia and Tiger Airways are the companies operating at Coolangatta Airport.

On the left of the airport, you can find the arrivals zone , with the car rental companies (Budget, Thrifty). Visitors arriving can take a shuttle, there is an exchange desk, the baggage claim to recover luggage. On the right there are many check-in desks and check-in “robots”.

In the centre, there are customs and the airport Police headquarters.

At the back, there is the departure hall and arrivals with the gates 1 to 6. After the customs there are many shops and food. There are 55 flights per day, from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Coolangatta Airport has been opened since 1979. Our guide Sean (Duty Manager) has explain that this airport is actually in renovation.

Erika is surprised : “ There are lots of security measures. I was interested because it’s different from our domestic airport (Magenta). For example, the luggage claim is in a public zone”.
